We had another Monday session. Time is passing me by so fast I’m feeling a bit dizzy.
I haven’t had an opportunity to look at the homework assignments we were given. Hopefully later this week I’ll get something done. Commuting to Kemi and Simo for other studies has been taking a lot of my time. But hey, maybe some of those theatre studies will help out in TC as well, you never now. (insert emoticon here)
Yesterday we talked about terminology in the lecture. Funnily enough me and my friends talked about a similar subject a little earlier. I heard that the suggested term for sofa, “sohva”, was “joukkoistuin”. Even though I’m sometimes really fanatical about fighting Finglish, I couldn’t help but laugh. (insert laughing acronym here)
Well. I think I’ll be off to do some work. Gotta keep busy in this ratrace of a world.
p.s. Facebook is stealz your times.

Hi Teemu!
I’m afraid I missed the terminology session but your blog entry reminded me of some negotiations over new terms in the course of time. I remember one issue that we talked about when I was at school and I found an article on the same issue on the website of KOTUS (Kotimaisten kielten tutkimuskeskus). The discussion was about what we now know as “ostoskeskus”. There were different alternatives competing such as ostokeskus, ostoskeskus, puhos etc. The text nicely illustrates how terminology choice is often a more complicated process than one might think. Here is a link to the article.
